NaNoWriMo 2016

In a crazy turn of events, this morning I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo.

NaNoWriMo, for those of you who are not familiar, stands for National Novel Writing Month, in which hundreds of thousands of writers scrabble to write 50,000 words/a novel during the month of November.

I have signed up before, but never made the effort after the first couple of days, so this is my first real year actually participating. This year I hope to get over the finish line, but would really just be happy if I made a good go of it. The reason I decided to do this was to get myself into good writing habits. I have never been good at setting myself time to write, and I know that you can't force writing, but I never really give myself a good chance. The other reason was to give myself something other than Celeste to focus on. Celeste has been a struggle all year so it's nice to think about something else. I have no real plan other than a half page of notes about a dream I had months ago. It was going to be the thing I worked on after Celeste but I thought it would be good project to do for NaNoWriMo. The fact that I have no plan is thrilling and terrifying in equal parts. But the best thing is that it's got me excited to write, even if I'm crapping my pants about it.

I will be blogging/instagramming/tweeting my NaNoWriMo experience so please feel free to follow me on these social media platforms. As you have probably noticed, I have changed all my social media handles from thediggorycomplex to vfbrwrites. As sad as it was to get rid of TDC, I thought it was time to personalise my online presence with something that isn't an inside joke. I also changed the URL of this blog to my full name because sometimes we just have to grow up!

So tomorrow I start a new writing adventure and tonight I most probably spend most of the it trying to get as organised as possible! (I've already started!)

If you are participating in NaNoWriMo yourself, please feel free to add my as a Writing Buddy. My username is (surprise surprise!)  vfbrwrites.

Wish me luck!
